Choose the right adventure for you

In a group with a guide or on your own? Itinerant or star circuit? Fitness level and difficulty? Here’s all the information you need to choose the type of tour that’s right for you!

Which formula to choose?

Guided

– A mountain leader guides you throughout the trek, guaranteeing your safety and helping you discover the different natural and cultural aspects of the region you’re visiting.
– You hike in a small group on pre-arranged dates.

On your own

– You manage your own day.
– You walk with a mobile application that gives you complete autonomy during your trip.
– You leave on the date of your choice.

Itinerant or star trekking?

Star tours
These hikes start from one or two lodgings, with loops that allow you to return to the same accommodation in the evening.

Itinerant
Itinerant tours allow you to discover a region by moving on to a new stage each day. On some itineraries, you can spend 2 nights in the same place to get the most out of the site.

Carrying your bag

Without bag
Most of our trips are “no-bag”, meaning you carry only your personal belongings for the day and your picnic. The rest of your luggage is transported to the next stage, so you’ll find your luggage following you every evening.

Reduced porterage
For some hikes, you’ll need to carry some of your personal belongings, such as your sleeping bag and a change of clothes, for one or more stages. Generally speaking, logistics allow you to have access to your luggage every other day.

With bag
You carry your personal belongings for the entire trek.

The levels

For each trip, we indicate a level that allows you to judge the relative difficulty. This assessment is based on the length of the stages, the daily vertical drop, the surface of the trail, the total duration of the adventure and the altitude. For our cycling trips, the assessment is based on the duration of the stages, the distance to be covered and the altitude difference.

Level 1 – Easy
Accessible to beginners and anyone in good health. No major technical difficulties. You must practice at least one physical activity regularly.
– For hikes: 2h to 4h walking per day. An average of 300m to 500m of elevation gain per day. Ideal for first-time hikers!
– For cycling: stages of 20 to 40 km. Maximum cumulative difference in altitude 400m per day. Recommended for families and/or those who enjoy a leisurely ride.

Level 2 – Moderate
These tours are designed for people looking for an active vacation. A reasonable level of fitness is required. You must practice at least one sporting activity at least once a week.
– For hikes: 3 to 5 hours walking per day on trails with few technical difficulties. An average of 500m to 700m of positive vertical drop per day. Suitable for regular walkers.
– For cycling: stages from 40 km to 70 km. Maximum cumulative vertical drop 800m per day. First experience of a cycling tour is recommended.

Level 3 – Sustained

Good physical condition. You do more than 3 hours of sport a week and you already have experience of your chosen activity.
– For hikes: from 4h to 6h of walking per day, and sometimes more! Varied terrain with some technical difficulties. An average of 700m to 900m of positive vertical drop per day (less at higher altitudes). For regular mountain hikers, as some days may require considerable effort.
– For cycling: stages of 60 km to 80 km. Maximum cumulative daily vertical drop of 1,500 m. Requires cycling experience to manage effort.

Level 4 – Difficult

You need to be in very good physical condition, well trained and able to make a continuous effort over several days. Experience of the activity and regular practice are required.
For hikes: from 6h to 9h of walking per day, and sometimes more! Frequent off-trail sections. On average more than 1000m of positive vertical drop per day (except at altitude). Passage at high altitudes, possibility of altitude sickness. Mountain trekking experience required.
– For cycling: stages of 80 to 100 km and cumulative daily vertical drops of 1,200 to 1,600 meters. Good cycling experience and weekly practice required.

Level 5 – Very difficult

You need to be in excellent physical condition, well trained and able to make a continuous effort over several consecutive days. Real experience of the activity and regular practice are essential.
– For hikes: more than 7 hours walking per day! Frequent off-trail passages. More than 1000m of positive vertical drop per day (less at higher altitudes). Experience of trekking at altitude and in the mountains essential.
– For cycling: stages of over 100 km and cumulative altitude difference of over 1500 meters. Good cycling experience and weekly practice required.

Walking times and rhythms

Walking times given are for guidance only. Please note that these are average times and do not include breaks. Depending on weather conditions, the pace may also vary.

Our children

We accept children aged 12/13 and over on most of our tours. Some tours can be organized with younger children aged 7 and over, so please do not hesitate to contact us for advice.

Groups

Since we work with local agencies on most of our tours, we can offer group packages if you have friends who want to join your adventure. With these packages, you benefit from more flexible logistics.
